One of the most important goals of the utilization of BIM is the physical coordination of systems between disciplines, for proper and efficient installation in the field. The ENGworks BIM Coordination process involves Clash Detection reports, Constructability reviews, virtual and/or personal Coordination meetings with architects, engineers, consultants, construction manager(s) and sub-contractors.
BIM Coordination & Fabrication
Building Conflict Reporting / Clash Detection
Once the BIM Models for all disciplines are accurately created, ENGworks performs Clash Detection and generates customized Building Conflict Reports (BCR). Our staff works together with the architects, engineers, general contractor and various trades to detect and resolve the design conflicts among construction elements, before construction dollars are spent.
Procurement and Quantity Take-Offs (QTO)
Accurate quantification of building components is a constant necessity during design and construction phases of any project. By incorporating and maintaining the required information within a BIM, accurate quantities can be extracted in real time. ENGworks assists during the Procurement process by providing Quantity Take-Offs generated from the BIM. In addition, when combined with optional studies or phasing, accurate comparative data can be a powerful tool in maintaining and optimizing efficiencies. ENGworks will work with its clients to maximize the value of a model toward these tasks.
4D Scheduling / Construction Sequencing
Complex site logistics and installation phasing are some of many potential applications for visualization. Using graphic representation to understand time-based processes can help foresee conflicts and study potential options. 4D adds the time factor of the construction schedule to the 3D model. We can directly link each activity of a Gantt chart (generated in project management software such as Primavera or Microsoft Project) to the BIM.
5D Cost Estimation
Many conventional estimating techniques, which rely on two-dimensional drawing measurements, have substantial potential for ambiguity, inefficiency and error. A three-dimensional project model removes the ambiguity and potential inconsistencies in project quantity estimations.
The fifth dimension (5D) is cost, which is brought into the virtual building life cycle.
BIM for Prefabrication and Fabrication
Preparing a building component or assembly for fabrication is a time consuming process that depends on numerous complex factors. BIM facilitates a variety of related design-construction activities, including digital fabrication and Shop drawings of building components. BIM enables digital design-to-fabrication workflows for all building disciplines.
On-Site Support/ BIM Field Coordinator
Technology has greatly eased work from different locations. We believe though, that for certain endeavors, a personal presence is required in order to increase communication, thereby maximizing efficiency. As Coordination meetings represent an essential process that allows teams to resolve clashes before they are identified in the field, effective meetings can save (depending on project size) hundreds of thousands of dollars, which provides increased profitability to all contracting teams. These meetings can occur in person or they can be effectively conducted using web-based collaboration tools. ENGworks can instruct general contractors and other team leaders in the effective oversight of Coordination meetings.
